Gasometer
So I went to vegan drinks last night. Had a great night there, ate way too much as usual but although the crowd was a lot smaller than last time it was a good mix of people. Gasometer always seems to be pretty packed and rightly so, with an interesting mix of hipsters, professionals, the odd hippy and a lot of tattooed punky types, it’s always good for people watching.
I just had chips last time I came here not realizing how awesome the vegan menu is so I definitely didn’t want to make that mistake again.
Unfortunately I wasn’t very hungry despite having had a small lunch in preparation for my visit. After much deliberation I finally decided on the Smoked tofu strips.
The photo doesn’t really do them much justice. The flavour of these is amazing, who would of thought tofu could ever taste like that! The smokey barbecue flavour is pretty intense ans some friends thought they were way to spicy to handle but it didn’t bother me in the slightest. They sauce they come with is really nice too, think it was a vegan aoli. At $12 they aren’t the best value item on the menu but they’re super tasty and quite filling which is all that matters.
I’d been thinking about the pumpkin pie for dessert then someone pointed out the specials board with 3 other amazing sounding vegan dessert options, how can one choose when so unused to that many options? Anyway I ended up sticking to my original plan and ordered the pumpkin pie. Someone else ordered the raspberry lemonade cake so I got to have a taste OMG! it was a monster, 4 layers high totalling about 15cm served with vegan cream.
I’ve eaten plenty of pumpkin pie before but I think this one takes the cake. It was so cinnamony and moist and the gingerbread ice cream that came with it was amazing in it’s own right, if only I could get the recipe.
Gasometer is definitely worth a visit and a good place to take your non vegan friends for drinks and food since there’s something there for everyone.
